Iraqi Universities and Academic Institutions Achieve Competitive Rankings in the 2026 Scimago Global Classification

Details: Iraqi universities and academic institutions have achieved competitive results in the 2026 Scimago Institutions Rankings (SIR), which evaluated 10,827 institutions worldwide.

The results highlighted 83 Iraqi universities, including the University of Baghdad, the University of Technology, Mustansiriya University, University of Babylon, University of Diyala, Al-Mustaqbal University, the University of Information Technology and Communications (UOITC), and the universities of Mosul, Basra, and Anbar.

The Scimago classification is based on a composite indicator that combines three different criteria: Research Performance (50%), Innovation (30%), and Societal Impact (20%). Each main indicator includes sub-indicators such as the number of published research papers, the quality of journals, citation counts, and relative impact factors. Additionally, institutions must meet the requirement of publishing at least 100 research papers in the Scopus database during the evaluation year.
