Joint Awareness Activity on Climate Change

Overview: Within the framework of joint cooperation between the Website Unit and the Women’s Affairs Unit, this awareness activity was developed to highlight climate change as a global environmental issue with a direct impact on human life and the environment. This initiative aims to spread environmental awareness and promote climate literacy by providing simplified scientific information that clarifies the concept of climate change and its primary causes through awareness posters published on the official website.

Climate Change: Concept and Causes

The term “climate change” refers to long-term shifts in Earth’s climate patterns. While these changes can result from natural factors, such as variations in Earth’s orbit, the term is currently most commonly used to describe changes resulting from human activities.

The most prominent manifestation of climate change in the modern era is the rise in average global temperatures (Global Warming), alongside changes in precipitation patterns and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.

Causes of Climate Change

The emission of greenhouse gases is the primary driver of contemporary climate change. These gases contribute to the greenhouse effect by trapping heat within the atmosphere.

Without this natural phenomenon, Earth’s average temperature would be approximately -18°C, rendering the environment unsuitable for supporting life. However, this phenomenon has intensified since the Industrial Revolution in the mid-18th century due to human activities—particularly the burning of coal, oil, and natural gas—leading to an increased concentration of greenhouse gases and rising global temperatures.

Major Emission Sources

Global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, concentrated primarily in:

  • Energy Sector: Electricity generation and transportation.
  • Agricultural Sector.
  • Land-Use Change.
  • Industrial Activities.

These factors collectively accelerate the pace of climate change and exacerbate the global warming phenomenon.
